FOREST HILLS — Forest Hills is a perfect setting for a first date, locals say. The neighborhood's cozy charm will make anyone feel at home and the area has several restaurants, stores and activities that should not be missed.
If you've got a sweet tooth:
There are two stores in Forest Hills that cater to those looking for something sweet. Eddie's Sweet Shop, at 105-29 Metropolitan Ave., serves up homemade ice cream while maintaining an old-school charm.
"We get a lot of dates here," said Jessica Estrella, who works at the parlor. "They usually come from the cinema across the street and they come here."
Eddie's vintage decor and ice cream flavors are why one user on Twitter said "Don't know about dinner, but the date has to end at Eddie's Sweet Shop."
The second store, Emily's Sugar Rush, is a more recent addition to Forest Hills, opening last year at 72-01 Austin St. The shop is a throwback to old-school candy stores, featuring all varieties of Jelly Belly candies, perfect for trying all of the flavors and finding your favorite with your new date.
If you want a romantic dinner:
One of the most popular spots for a romantic dinner is Danny Brown's, a wine bar at 104-02 Metropolitan Ave.
The eatery was recently named one of New York's 38 essential restaurants by Eater, and it is so popular that Jon Parker at the blog EateryRow: Forest Hills wrote an open letter begging Danny Brown to bring a second location to Austin Street.
"The neighborhood needs a place where a guy like me can go on a date without having to scream a conversation or fight for a pair of bar stools or have someone's buffalo chicken sauce drip on my shirt," Parker wrote, adding: "I think that you're the man for the job."
If you're in the mood for pizza, then Dee's, at 107-23 Metropolitan Ave., is a best bet. Dee's serves up brick-oven pizza with a warm, inviting decor. That's part of the reason why Dee's was named one of the most family-friendly restaurants in the country by OpenTable.

When asked for a first date idea, Twitter user @michaelsamuel responded: "Forest Park carousel and a picnic."
The Forest Park Carousel appears to be on its way to becoming a dating destination. The carousel, located in the borough's third-largest park, reopened earlier this year after a five year absence. The carousel, built in 1903, features animals designed by master craftsman Daniel Muller.
If you're closer to Austin Street and don't want to travel a long distance for a relaxing location, Station Square is an option.
Located a short walk away from the 71st/Continental Avenue Subway Station, Station Square is home to the neighborhood's Long Island Rail Road station, as well as the 100-year-old Station Square Inn.
The area has worked hard to maintain its old-school charm, with Tudor-style buildings and leafy streets, making it a great spot to sit down and chat.
