The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg and Dead Kennedys Play New York

Wednesday, July 25

For those willing to trek out to New Jersey for a little '60s and '70s nostalgia, the Allman Brothers Band and Santana are playing the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. The shows starts at 6:30 p.m., so be prepared to fight rush-hour traffic on the Garden State Parkway.

Also playing: The Echo-Friendly bring their brand of shoe-gaze indie pop to the Bowery Electric at 7 p.m. for a free show.

Thursday, July 26

Remember when you were an emotionally addled teenager clad in flannel? You will once you check out Soul Asylum at the Bowery Ballroom. Singing along to the band's hit "Runaway Train" will bring it all back. You can check out the group's new album "Delayed Reaction" on their website.

Also playing: Tacoma, Wash.-born and current Brooklyn resident Brad Oberhofer released his debut album "Time Capsules II" this year after releasing a popular pair of lovelorn indie-pop gems last year. You can check him out for free as part of the River Rocks concert series at Pier 84 on the Hudson River just south of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

Saturday, July 28

The Catalpa Festival on Randalls Island this weekend boasts an eclectic mix of music. Indie blues-inflected rockers The Black Keys are headlining on Saturday. Other acts include disco- influenced Hercules and Love Affair, Brooklyn's (as in originally from Brooklyn) TV on the Radio, and Umphrey's McGee. A weekend pass will run you $179.99 and a single-day pass is $99.99. Getting to Randalls Island is not the easiest, but there will be some extra options for the festival. Check out the festival's website for directions to the island.

Also playing: Hip-hop pioneers Slick Rick and Biz Markie will show they can still rap as well as all the youngsters at the Gramercy Theater at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, July 29

Sure to please hip-hop heads and hipsters alike on Sunday, Snoop Dogg is headlining Catalpa, playing his breakout 1993 album Doggystyle. Twee indie-rock duo Matt and KimCold War Kids and Girl Talk are also playing Sunday.

Monday, July 30

Hip-hop legends of political conscience Public Enemy are playing a free show with Salt-n-Pepa at Wingate Field in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 31

California hardcore punk pioneers Dead Kennedys are playing Santos Party House at 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, legendary front man Jello Biafra no longer tours with the band. Ron "Skip" Greer, formerly of the Wynona Riders, will take center stage.

Brooklyn punk band Cerebral Ballzy will open.
