STATEN ISLAND — A man threatening to jump from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge led cops on a four-hour standoff that snarled traffic for hours Monday, NYPD officials said.
The unidentified man perched himself on a ledge mid-span along the suspension bridge — holding onto the cables in an apparent suicide threat — about 12:30 p.m., forcing the authorities to close the upper level to Staten Island-bound traffic.
The man was talked off the ledge and was taken into custody about 4:30 p.m., police said.
Officials had been negotiating with the "emotionally disturbed person" to come off the ledge amid a severe thunderstorm watch.
