Man Dies After ATV Smashes Into Pole

SOUTH JAMAICA — A Queens man died after his riding his ATV on the sidewalk, and smasing into a pole early Saturday night, police said.

Police responded to a call that the victim, Dave Thomas, 33, had suffered a bike injury while riding along Merrick Boulevard, near 119th Avenue. Upon arrival, rescuers found that Thomas had been riding his ATV on the sidewalk, headed southbound on the sidewalk, when he struck a metal pole, cops said.

Thomas, who lived on 155th Avenue, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, but prounounced dead of his injuries.
