Stonyfield Bike-Up Dairy Bar Opening in Chelsea Piers

By Mathew Katz | July 19, 2012 7:20am

CHELSEA — A new dairy bar run by one of the heads of yogurt giant Stonyfield Organic will soon open a walk, bike and skate-up window in Chelsea — right next to the popular west side bike and jogging lane at Pier 62.

Chelsea's Table,  a 3,800-square-foot cafe and dairy bar at Chelsea Piers, opened, in the spring. The walk-up window — an outpost of the cafe — is set to open on July 25.

Located just west of Chelsea Piers' 23rd Street entrance, the bar will serve up healthy treats including fruit and yogurt smoothies, frozen yogurt bars, snack-sized yogurt cups and organic frozen yogurt in a variety of flavors.

Customers passing the window will be able to pick up sweet treats from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays in the summer.

They can also get a nosh inside the cafe itself, which has a full menu assembled by Executive Chef David Seigal that focuses on locally-sourced ingredients, including hormone-free cheeses from Vermont Creamery and eggs from a fourth-generation family farm upstate.

The new bike-up window is aiming to capitalize on the huge amount of foot traffic — not to mention bike and skateboard traffic — in the area during the warmer months, a spokeswoman said.

It's currently unclear whether the window will stay open come winter.
