Jeremy Lin Fans Voice Heartbreak as Linsanity Heads to Houston

By Maya Shwayder | July 18, 2012 1:45pm

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN — Linsanity's move to Texas was driving Knicks fans mad Wednesday after their team failed to match The Houston Rockets' $25 million offer to Jeremy Lin.

"I was fixing the Garden for Jeremy, and now he's not playing," joked Eric Roberts, 51, a construction worker who's working on the structure behind Madison Square Garden.

"It's a loss for New York. They should have paid the money and kept him a few more seasons."

"I think the management is misguided," said Bill, 65, a financial advisor who wouldn't give his last name.

"Lin was a breath of fresh air. I don't hold out much hope for the team's foreseeable future."

Eddie Palmer, 30, an elevator repairman, said, "I don't think it's right. They should have kept him.

"It'll definitely hurt [the Knicks]. I was surprised they wouldn't give a better offer."

The heartbreak drove one fan to pen a parody, written to the tune of Gotye's "Somebody That I used to Know."

"Why'd you have to sign so high?" the singer, who calls himself NOC, opines on YouTube.

But Jeff Baron, 41, who works for the EMC corporation, was a bit more magnanimous.

"A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do," he said. "I mean, it's sad. I started watching the Knicks because of him.

"On a personal note, it was fun watching him."
