Inwood's La Marina Finally Opens

By Carla Zanoni | July 3, 2012 10:22am

INWOOD — After more than five years of planning and construction work on the western edge of Dyckman Street at the Hudson River, Inwood’s long-awaited La Marina restaurant opened quietly over the weekend.

Although the opening was considered a soft-launch, people were spotted enjoying the scenic views at 348 Dyckman St. at the western edge of the Hudson River, overlooking the glimmering George Washington Bridge and the Palisades on Friday night. the restaurant is expected to open on a regular basis on July 18, according to its owners.

"La Marina Looking Good For the First Weekend," tweeted @ChUmAKi189 Sunday night.

Whereas the marina was once a den of discarded junk and drug users, the new spacious and sophisticated space seemed to herald a new age for the Inwood waterfront.

For all of the new activity, and concerns about quality of life issues that could come with it,  residents told DNAinfo.com New York they did not notice increased traffic or noise and noted increased police patrols west of Broadway along Dyckman Street.

Although some residents said they were concerned about the logistics of the restaurant’s valet parking system, which closes off Dyckman Street from the western edge of the southbound exit ramp coming from the Henry Hudson Parkway to the Hudson River, traffic appeared calm in the immediate area throughout the weekend.

The restaurant and bar seats 500, despite attempts to open at a 1,000-seat capacity

The restaurant — originally presented as a seasonal establishment — will be open all year.
