MURRAY HILL — A police SUV collided with an air-conditioning repair van on Monday morning, according to the FDNY.

A call came in at 11:07 a.m. about the accident, which took place at the corner of Third Avenue and East 37th Street, an FDNY spokesman said. EMTs arrived on scene and took one person to the hospital with a head injury.

Jonathan Lipsmeyer, an employee at Winfield-Flynn Wines and Liquors on the southwest corner of the intersection, said he heard the impact and ran outside to see what happened.

"It was an awesome sound, like an explosive plastic pop," Lipsmeyer said.

The ambulance appeared a short time later, he said.

Spokesmen for the FDNY and NYPD did not confirm whether the person taken to the hospital was the officer or the driver of the van.

Employees at Arnica Heating and Air Conditioning, which owns the van, said the driver was doing fine and did not go to the hospital.
