MANHATTAN — Police who busted a pair of out-of-town teens for trying to beat the fare at the 14th Street Union Square subway station early Sunday morning discovered the men were carrying two loaded handguns and a bulletproof vest in a backpack, authorities said.
At about 4 a.m., cops detained Corey Pertterson, 19, of Elizabethtown, N.C., and Tyrin Gayle, 18, of Newburgh, N.Y., after the two entered the station using just one MetroCard swipe, the NYPD said.
Neither Pertterson nor Gayle had proper identification, and a subsequent search of their backpack revealed the guns and bulletproof vest, police said.
Both men were charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal trespass and theft of service, cops added.
