NEW YORK — Police believe an 80-year-old man who was robbed in his Upper East Side apartment building on May 3 was targeted by a group of muggers three strong, the NYPD reported.

Initially, police had identified just two suspects.

The man was attacked at about 3:15 p.m. after two men followed him into his building on East 108th Street, cops said.

When he reached the second floor landing, one suspect grabbed him and put him in a chokehold, while the other removed his wallet. The pair then fled the building.

The resident, who was not seriously injured, declined medical treatment.

Surveillance footage shows the two leaving the scene. The third man, who walks with a cane, is thought to have been waiting outside during the attack.

One suspect was described as apparently 30 years old, about 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, authorities said. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with white lettering and white sleeves, gray sweatpants, black sneakers and carrying an orange backpack.

The second suspect was reportedly about 30 years old, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and bald. He was wearing a black jacket with a light-colored collar, blue jeans and black sneakers.

The third suspect was apparently 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark bubble jacket, a gray hooded sweatshirt, a blue shirt and blue jeans. He was also walking with a cane.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
