BOROUGH PARK — A minivan collided with a livery cab near a gas station in Borough Park Tuesday morning — coming dangerously close to smashing into gas pumps at the location, authorities and witnesses said.

The crash occurred near a Getty gas station at the corner of 59th Street and 18th Avenue about 7:15 a.m., FDNY officials said. It was not clear how the cab and Volkswagen van collided, but an employee of the gas station said the van hopped the curb and nearly struck a pump there.

“I heard a big bang," said Getty employee Bobby Cap of the incident, noting he saw the van swerve and narrowly miss the pump. “Thank God he stopped.”

Capp explained that the two people in the van walked out of the vehicle and didn’t appear to be hurt, but that a person in the livery cab did have injuries and was taken away by an ambulance.

However, FDNY officials did not have a report of anyone being taken to a hospital.
