FORT GREENE — Famed Fort Greene beauty brand Carol's Daughter, which was built from the ground up by a Brooklyn woman, closed its original store on South Elliot Place after more than a decade in business.

The popular, independently owned business shuttered its doors this week after opening in 1999. The hair care, skin care and beauty products line has seven stores nationally and has been promoted by celebs like Oprah Winfrey and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

"It's so hard to say goodbye to our heritage store," read a sign hanging in the window of the shop, near Dekalb Avenue, Wednesday morning. "Thank you for the years of love and support."

It was not immediately clear why the store closed, but Beverly Frazier, who owns Hair Theory on Lafayette Avenue, lamented the loss.
