CHELSEA — Street Chic was a guest at the Spring Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show at Chelsea's Metropolitan Pavilion, where fashion industry leaders sought inspiration for future fashion seasons — or simply searched for missing puzzle pieces to fill out their unique wardrobes.
Last fall Bergdorf Goodman introduced its own vintage collection, Coquette Atelier, featuring the most noteworthy labels from the past.
The most dazzling trend Street Chic noticed at the show? The glaring presence of '60s A-line shift dresses in strong abstract patterns and vivid, graduated floral motifs.
The jet-set-style silhouettes were best featured in memorable labels such as Emanuel Ungaro and Giorgio di Sant’Angelo. Sleeves were the key fashion feature, and varied from long and three-quarter length to straight and slightly puffed.
The feel of the fabric also varied, from structured dupioni textures to weightless, willowy sheer materials. Fauvist color was significant to the society looks, while Caribbean aqua, melon orange tones and palm-leaf green were often accented with gold motifs, shocking pink and sandy coral hues.
Eighties elegance was best seen in light quilted jackets with statement shoulders, as well as in the wide variety of tailored handbags with minimal hardware by Hermes and Gucci.
Punk details from the early '80s, such as rips, safety pins and spikes, were also featured from Devorado NYC. The notable shoe styles were low heel slip-ons, with high vamps faceted with bold buckles, bows and flowers.
Street Chic would also like to spotlight the tassle necklaces from L’art de Jewel; the tassel trend was seen during New York Fashion Week for Fall 2012. Another emerging look: dots in a variety of sizes and colors.
