Police Searching for Man Who Held Up Washington Heights Supermarket

MANHATTAN — Police are hunting a gray-haired bandit who held up a Washington Heights supermarket this week.

The suspect is seen on surveillance footage calmly approaching a cashier at the Gristedes on Broadway, at the corner of 170th Street, on Monday, April 16. He asks for change for a $5 bill, police said.

When the cashier opened the register, he pulled out a handgun and demanded cash, cops said. It was not clear if he managed to get any money.

The suspect fled the grocery store northbound on Broadway, police added.

He is described as between 50 and 60 years old with a gray beard, salt-and-pepper hair and glasses, cops said. He was last seen wearing tan pants, a burgundy long-sleeve shirt and black shoes.
