Spring Colors Brighten Up SoHo Streets

By Patrick Michael Hughes | April 2, 2012 1:57pm

SOHO — The early spring weather is bringing bright colors to the streets, and Street Chic recently captured stylish shoppers in the resurgent shopping district of SoHo.

The famous cobbled blocks are enjoying a new wave of luxury retail, with storefronts currently under construction for Yves Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney on Mercer Street, and Balenciaga on Greene.

SoHo's sidewalks were full of the best trends from recent runway shows and fashion industry reports, including brightly colored separates from scarlet to cyan, brocade metallic skirts and geometric mix-ups.

Lightweight flowing fabrics, such as slouchy sweaters, washed silk, whimsical tulle and pleated sheer rayon were seen in varying silhouettes from waterfall hemline dresses to tailored shirtwaist dresses. Skirt lengths still vary, but the most popular is the below-the-knee look.

The latest runway style — the '60s gamine look — put striking, minimalist, short white shift dresses onto the sidewalk.

The street's most fashion forward accessories include satchel swings, gold bangles and big gold necklaces. Street Chic first reported the gold jewelry trend at the Manhattan Vintage Show in February.
