OPENINGS

Churchill Tavern
45 E. 28th Street, near Park Avenue

Add a new British-style pub to the array of dining options in the Flatiron district. The blog MadParkNews reported that the Churchill Tavern opened at the tail end of last year. It boasts a piano as well as a stone fireplace inside the East 28th Street location, near Park Avenue. The website doesn’t say much about the food or the drinks, but sums the new tavern up with a quote from Winston Churchill himself: “My tastes are simple; I am easily satisfied with the best."

Orion Diner
395 Second Avenue

A new diner has opened up on Second Avenue near East 23rd Street, the neighborhood blog pcvstBee reported. The website is not yet up and running, but the spot serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Orion has been open now for about two weeks and has collected two reviews on Foursquare, one of them a rave. “Servers are great, food is great and they have sweet potato fries,” Jill B. wrote.

Five Napkin Burger
150 E. 14th Street

Big, sloppy burgers are coming to Union Square, Grub Street NY reported. Five Napkin Burger, a chain with three other locations around New York City, will open on Feb. 20, when it will offer 14-cent wings to celebrate the new spot on East 14th Street near Third Avenue. The menu at the Union Square location will also feature three new burgers: the avocado-ranch burger, the barbecue burger and the mushroom blue cheese burger.

COMING SOON

Flatiron Wines
929 Broadway

A new wine shop is coming to Broadway between East 21st and East 22nd streets in the Flatiron district. Aptly named Flatiron Wines, the storefront is currently covered with a “coming soon” sign, but the store’s website promises it will offer more than 1,500 hand-selected artisanal wines, free in-store tastings and events, free delivery between 14th and 34th streets and a free bottle of champagne when customers purchase their first case of wine.

Le Pain Quotidien
Broadway between East 21st and East 22nd streets

Right next door to the new wine shop, a sign has also gone up signaling the arrival of a new branch of Le Pain Quotidien. No word yet on an exact opening date, but the chain is hiring for the new location.

CLOSINGS

Quigley’s NY Grill
313 First Avenue

Quigley's NY Grill, a popular neighborhood pub near Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, has closed, the blog pcvstBee.com reported. The tavern on First Avenue near East 18th Street had been a neighborhood go-to for eight years, but reportedly had to vacate the location after negotiations with the landlord fell through.

Park Avenue Bistro
377 Park Avenue South

The Park Avenue Bistro, located on Park Avenue between East 26th and East 27th streets, has closed, Grub Street NY reported. The menu was filled with French classics, including escargots, tuna nicoise salad, coq au vin and croque monsieur.
