Malachy the Pekingese Takes Best In Show at Westminster

MANHATTAN — Big things come in small packages.

Malachy, the 4-year-old Pekingese who beat out the rest of the dogs in his toy group competition with his squat stature and flowing grey coat, took home the coveted "Best in Show" title at the Westminster Kennel Club's annual dog show on Tuesday.

The tiny pup — whose full name is Ch Palacegarden Malachy — is the first of his breed to win at Westminster since 1990, Bloomberg reported.

“He’s a super dog who had a stupendous night,” judge Cindy Vogels said Monday, Bloomberg reported. Vogels reportedly has a pair of Pekingese at her home in Colorado.

Malachy was a Westminster finalist last year, losing to a Scottish deerhound named Hickory, and ranked runner-up at the American Kennel Club competition last year as well, Bloomberg reported.
