The MTA will be shutting down service along large swaths of the 1,2 and 3 trains between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week.

There will be no service betwen Manhattan's Penn Station and Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue between those times, starting Monday. Service on the 3 train will be completely suspended during those hours, the MTA announced.

The no. 1 train will have no service between Penn Station and 242nd Street in the Bronx.

The disruption will continue through Thursday night, the MTA said.

The planned changes are a part of the transit authority's Fast Track program, which aims to speed through construction and subway maintanence by shuttering scores of stations at once.

The MTA estimates that more than 250,000 straphangers rely on weeknight service, and up to 15 percent could be forced to find alternate routes.

Meanwhile, MTA workers will be scurrying to sweep the tracks, repaint and repair platforms, and inspect signals and switches.

An MTA spokesperson told WNYC the massive closures save the city some $600,000 in labor costs, allowing workers to complete tasks that would otherwise take weeks or even months.

B,D and F trains are the next slated for closure, beginning February 27.
