Minka Kelly, Arianna Huffington and Doutzen Kroes Kick Off Fashion Week

MANHATTAN — Today is the first official day of New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and while many approach it as a 24/7 enterprise, famous multi-tasker Arianna Huffington extolled the benefits of sleep, an overlooked commodity.

At the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Health Initiative panel Tuesday, titled "A Balanced Life," Huffington told of a dinner she had with a man who was bragging about getting by on only four hours of sleep.

"If he had slept five, the dinner would have been more interesting," she said.

Model, activist and fellow panelist Elettra Weidemann finds her balance through good, clean food. Her Goodness pop-up restaurant will be offering healthy vittles for fashion types (and mere mortals) from Saturday, February 11 until Tuesday, February 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Museum of Art and Design, 2 Columbus Circle, 9th Floor.

"The food is very heathy and very clean with a different chef everyday," she told DNAinfo.

Speaking of models, casting agents, Doutzen Kroes is available. The Victoria’s Secret model doesn’t have any runway shows in New York booked yet, but she’s interested.

“I'm definitely available. I love doing shows,” she said an event hosted by the lingerie-maker in SoHo Wednesday morning. “I'm available here in New York and I'll be in Europe during the European shows.”

Jenna Elfman wore her own shoes as insurance when she came down the catwalk Wednesday evening at the Red Dress Collection’s Fashion Show to raise awareness of women’s heart disease at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Midtown.

"That’s one way of staying safe," she told DNAinfo, instead of risking a tumble in her Alberta Ferretti gown. Rose McGowan, in Donna Karan, was not as prepared. The actress tripped over her long dress as she took center stage, but was able to save herself from a fall. To recover, she vamped it up and down the runway, garnering the evening’s most applause. A close second was Debbie Phelps, swimmer Michael’s mother. At the end of the catwalk, she motioned for her son and one of her daughters to rise and give their mother a kiss. Aww ...
