STATEN ISLAND — A fire broke out Tuesday in an abandoned shipyard in Mariners Harbor, officials said.

An FDNY battalion chief said investigators suspect a homeless "vagrant" living near the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard site lit a fire to keep warm and sparked the 9:18 a.m. blaze.

The fire at Richmond Terrace and Harbor Road spread to piles of wood in the old shipyard, but was extinguished within 45 minutes.

There were no injuries, and the individual responsible for the blaze has not been located, fire officials added.
