BROOKLYN CRIMINAL COURT — Accused cop shooter Luis "Baby" Ortiz has been indicted on charges he tried to kill a police officer by shooting him in the head at point-blank range during a chase on Bushwick Avenue last week, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Ortiz, 21, who prosecutors called "evil" for his "heinous assassination attempt" against police officer Kevin Brennan, was charged with first-degree attempted murder for the Jan. 31 shooting and indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury.

Ortiz pleaded not guilty to the charges on Feb. 2 and was ordered held without bail.

While leaving the 90th Precinct in Williamsburg the day after his arrest, the reputed gang member smirked and blew kisses as a group of rowdy family members and supporters looked on.

Brennan, 29, a new father from Long Island, is expected to make a full recovery, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

Ortiz faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
