Street Closures Planned for Giants Parade in Canyon of Heroes

MANHATTAN — Drivers are advised to avoid lower Manhattan Tuesday due to street closures as the Giants are set to march through the "Canyon of Heroes" in a ticker-tape parade honoring their Super Bowl win.

The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Battery before moving north to City Hall.  To prepare for the festivities, the NYPD will be closing streets starting at 8 a.m., Gridlock Sam Schwartz tweeted on Monday.

City officials are closing several streets and said there may be limited subway access as the Fulton Street, Wall Street and City Hall stops may be closed for "limited time periods" on Tuesday morning.

PATH service, however, will be stepped up, the Port Authority said.

All streets between Broadway and Church streets, from Canal to Pearl streets, will be closed, according to the mayor's office.

Other street closures include: Lafayette and Centre streets from Canal to Chambers streets; Park Row between Chambers Street and Broadway; Spruce Street between Gold Street and Park Row; Battery Place between Broadway and West Thames Streets; and Worth between Church and Baxter streets.

Also, there will be no Brooklyn Bridge access to and from Park Row, city officials said.

MTA officials urged New Yorkers to take public transit to the event, noting that the best stations to take will be the 1 to South Ferry, the 2/3 to Wall or Fulton streets, the 4/5/6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, the J to Chambers Street and the R to Rector Street.

For crowd control purposes, at 10 a.m. the MTA will be closing the following stations: the 4/5 Wall Street stop, the City Hall R, the A/C at Chambers Street, the World Trade Center E and the 4/5/A/C at Fulton Street.

The Port Authority will be running additional PATH service to accommodate fans attending the parade, with additional service to the World Trade Center.

The PATH will extend its morning rush-hour service on the Newark-to-World Trade Center and Hoboken-to-World Trade Center routes from 9:30 to 3:30 p.m., Port Authority officials said.

The Newark-to-World Trade Center route will have trains running roughly every 5 minutes during midday rather than the usual every 15 minutes.  On the Hoboken-to-World Trade Center route, trains will run every 6 minutes instead of every 12 minutes.

NY Waterway will expand its service to and from Wall Street's Pier 11 along the routes that serve Weehawken, Hoboken and Belford, N.J. The East River ferry will also offer added service, NY  Waterway officials said.

The NYPD may close some additional entrances near the parade, MTA officials said.

Gridlock Sam tweeted his advice to commuters: "DON’T EVEN THINK OF DRIVING!"

He offered other tips, tweeting, "City workers, don’t park cars within 200 ft of parade route. In past parades, fans stood on cars & crushed them."
