Clinton Street Baking Company Celebrates Pancake Month

By Julie Shapiro | February 1, 2012 2:31pm

LOWER EAST SIDE — These pancakes are worth flipping for.

The Clinton Street Baking Company served up crunchy banana pancakes drizzled with a cinnamon-chili-chocolate sauce Wednesday morning — the first in a decadent lineup of offerings for the eatery's annual Pancake Month.

The popular Lower East Side brunch spot, which commands hours-long waits on weekends, is making its signature pancakes even more tempting this month by adding a rotating selection of tasty toppings and unusual flavor combinations.

In addition to the crunchy banana variety (available Feb. 1, 2, 20, 21 and 22), Clinton Street Baking Co. will also offer pancakes topped with poached pears, vanilla bean whipped cream and warm maple butter (Feb. 3 and 6), as well as fresh coconut pancakes sprinkled with bruleed bananas and kumquat syrup (Feb. 23 and 34).

For Valentine's Day, the pancakes will take an even sweeter turn, topped with chocolate chunks, fresh raspberries and raspberry-caramel sauce (this flavor will return Feb. 27, 28 and 29).

The other Pancake Month flavors include almond frangipane pancakes with toasted almonds and raspberry sauce (Feb. 7, 8 and 9), Japanese pumpkin pancakes with pumpkin seed streusel and warm maple butter (Feb. 10 and 13), and banana pancakes with Bavarian cream, toasted coconut and warm maple butter (Feb. 15 and 16).

The Pancake Month specials are available at Clinton Street Baking Company, 4 Clinton St., on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
