BRONX — A young child was taken for a terrifying ride Saturday after a carjacker stole a vehicle in The Bronx with the tot still inside, police said.

The wild incident unfolded in the Fordham Manor section of The Bronx shortly after 2 p.m., when the child’s mother parked her car in front of 2651 Jerome Ave. and stepped out of the vehicle to grab her 3-year-old son from the passenger seat, police sources said.

That’s when the carjacker, described as being between 45 and 55 years old, jumped into the vehicle and sped off with the child, striking the mother with the car in the process, police said.

Officers conducted a canvas of the area and found the vehicle parked a block away, in front of 2600 Davidson Ave., about an hour later with the child still inside and unharmed, police said.

Both the mother, 45, and child were taken to St. Barnabus Hospital for evaluation, police added.

An investigation is ongoing.
