MANHATTAN — A person loose on the R train tracks in lower Manhattan forced authorities to cut off power to a section of subway Tuesday night, officials said.

Emergency crews responded to a call of a person running on the tracks between the Rector Street and Whitehall Street stations on the R line shortly before 8:30 p.m., the FDNY said.

The MTA cut off power between the City Hall and Whitehall Street stations for 40 minutes in both directions, restoring service at 9:05 p.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.
