By Julie Shapiro | January 20, 2012 4:00pm

EAST VILLAGE — Police are looking for a man who allegedly locked an East Village woman in her bathroom and ransacked her apartment earlier this week.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, allegedly followed the 31-year-old woman into her building's elevator about 1 a.m. Jan. 16, police said.

After the woman exited the elevator and went into her apartment, the suspect broke into the apartment and locked the victim inside her bathroom, police said.

As the woman screamed for help, the intruder ransacked a bedroom but soon fled without taking anything, police said.

The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police described the suspect as 5-feet-8-inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown eyes, wearing a three-quarter-length jacket, hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and black-rim glasses.

A surveillance video shows the suspect in the East Village building's elevator.
