F.D.R. Shut Down After SUV and Taxi Crash

MANHATTAN — A two-car accident snarled traffic on the FDR Drive on Friday afternoon, further enraging drivers who knew to avoid the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway after a billboard crashed onto the road.

A collision involving a black SUV and a yellow taxi near West 41st Street forced traffic into one lane on the southbound FDR about 3:30 p.m.

The SUV ended up facing the wrong way on the highway. All of its passenger side windows were shattered, a witness said, and debris was scattered across the roadway. The taxi was on the other side of the median with all of its airbags deployed.
