Pedestrian Struck After Leaving Cab on FDR Drive in East Harlem Updated January 12, 2012 6:56am

A 45-year-old man was struck and critically injured on the FDR Drive after he hopped out of a cab and started crossing the highway late Wednesday, officials said.

The man, who was not identified by police, was a passenger in a cab on the roadway near 102nd St. in East Harlem about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

He suddenly jumped from the cab as it was in the southbound lanes and darted across the median, where a northbound 2008 Toyota stuck him, police said.

The victim was taken to Metropolitan Hospital Center, fire officials said. He was in critical condition, police said.

The cabbie and the driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and were not expected to be charged, police said.
