Buddha Beer Bar Set to Open as A & D Paint Store Closes

By Carla Zanoni | December 22, 2011 4:13pm

OPENINGS

Tropical, a new rotisserie chicken restaurant in Inwood, opened in early December. The restaurant at 4935 Broadway replaces Boca Chica, a take out Dominican-style restaurant on the busy corner of West 207th Street and Broadway that quietly went out of business in late November.

The new restaurant is offering a deal on take-out rotisserie chickens at just $4.95 a bird.

ON THE HORIZON

Buddha Beer Bar is set to open early in the new year along an increasingly popular stretch of Broadway in upper Washington Heights, according to owner James Lee, who also owns the nearby 181 Cabrini and Zanny's Cafe on the Upper West Side.

The restaurant’s Twitter feed is already engaging with Inwood and Washington Heights foodies to whet their appetites with descriptions of their planned 24 beers on tap of "high end beers" served alongside a menu of "global bar food" at its new location at 4476 Broadway, near W. 191st Street.

CLOSINGS

After 17 years in business, neighborhood paint shop A & D Paint has sold its last can of paint in Inwood. The store at 5056 Broadway closed with little warning except a For Rent sign hung on its gated doors. The store opened in 1994 and was a staple for many in the neighborhood who needed painting supplies or wanted to hire a painter to freshen up their home.

Tabouli Middle Eastern Cuisine, the only Mediterranean-style restaurant in Washington Heights and Inwood, has closed. The restaurant, located at 3915 Broadway, near West 164th Street, was popular with residents, New York-Presbyterian hospital employees and Columbia University students and faculty. The business phone number has been disconnected.
