MANHATTAN — Unseasonably balmy temperatures this week may give way to a dusting of snow on Friday, just in time for Christmas — but don't expect the white stuff to last.

Rain forecast on Friday afternoon will possibly turn into flurries and sleet later in the day, according to the National Weather Service.

But the snow won’t stick around as little to no accumulation is expected.

The abrupt turn comes after Manhattan has enjoyed unusually warm late-December temperatures, including a high of 62 degrees on Wednesday and an expected high of 56 degrees Thursday, which marks the first day of winter.

Those temperatures are about 15 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year, according to AccuWeather.

Despite the possibility of snow, it will still reach a high of 49 degrees Friday before dipping to a low of 34, followed by a high of 40 degrees and a low of 32 on Saturday, Christmas Eve, according to AccuWeather.

Christmas Day will be slightly warmer, with a high of 45 degrees and a low of 36.

Temperatures are forecast to remain in the mid-40s for highs and the mid-30s for lows through the end of the year, according to AccuWeather.
