MANHATTAN — Magnolia cupcakes aren't just for tourists and the "Sex and the City" gals anymore.

The baked goods that sparked the country's cupcake frenzy are now available for shipment nationwide to all states except Alaska and Hawaii, according to a statement released Tuesday by Magnolia Bakery

Vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, devil's food, pistachio, lemon and pumpkin cupcakes with buttercream frosting can be pre-ordered now for shipment starting Jan. 2.

"We wanted to offer our patrons from coast-to-coast the chance to enjoy our cupcakes, delivered straight to their doorsteps," owner Steve Abrams said in the statement.

Magnolia's cookies, brownies and dessert bars were available by mail order beginning Dec. 1, Abrams said. It took a longer period of testing to get cupcakes, which will be shipped frozen, to arrive in perfect condition.

Six cupcakes in a box costs $18, six cupcakes in a decorative tin costs $30 and 12 cupcakes in a box will run $36.

The less sweet news is that postage for the treats, which varies by location, isn't cheap. It costs $46.09 to send six cupcakes to Omaha, Neb. overnight, according to Magnolia's website. Sending the cupcakes priority overnight through FedEx, the only other option, costs $52.

Magnolia also unveiled its Cupcake Club on Thursday. This gift brings a monthly delivery of a dozen of the shop's featured cupcakes to the recipient's doorstep.

Membership in this club is cheaper than many Manhattan gym memberships, at $220 for three months, $445 for six months, $670 for nine months and $895 for the entire year, including shipping.

"It's the Magnolia Bakery gift that keeps on giving," Abrams said.

Alaska and Hawaii residents can call 1-855-MBAKERY to inquiry about possible shipments.
