MANHATTAN — Two men were killed in the Fulton Houses Monday morning in an apparent murder-suicide, sources told DNAinfo.

A 29-year-old man was found dead at 413 West 16th Street with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. A 20-year-old man was found with gunshot and stab wounds, police said, and was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

The incident started just after 11 a.m., sources said, when the 29-year-old man got into a physical altercation with his girlfriend. The girlfriend's cousin, the 20-year-old man, intervened. The boyfriend pulled a gun, and the cousin wrestled him for it, sources said.

The boyfriend stabbed the cousin, sources said, and then shot him before turning the weapon on himself.

"These are three kids who all grew up together at the Fulton Houses," said Miguel Acevedo, president of the Tenant's Association at the housing complex. "For something like this to happen, it's very sad."

Robert Torres, 20, who has lived in the Fulton Houses his whole life, said he knew one of the men.

"He was a nice guy," Torres said. "I didn't expect anything like this. I've known him ever since I was a kid."
