New Yorkers Offer Their Holiday Wishes

By Tuan Nguyen | December 9, 2011 6:52am

MANHATTAN — Feliz Navidad, Chag Sameach and Merry Christmas — the holidays are finally here.

New Yorkers are looking forward to celebrating the Hanukkah, Christmas and the New Year — and each has their own wish for gifts.

"For the holidays I'm asking for a new pair of boots because the one that I'm wearing are pretty beat to hell," said Jillian Lucas, a 21-year-old student from SUNY Purchase College, at Grand Central this week. "It's kind of my everything boots, so I need a new pair.

"My mom is pretty good with getting me presents. My dad kind of gets me silly little things," she explained.

For Gibson Bratts, 46, a car inspector with the Metro-North Rail Road, an iPad2 or a Macbook Pro would do the trick.

“I’ve been waiting for two years, and it would be a perfect Christmas present, especially when the new Apple store opens up in Grand Central," he said.

Bratts added, though, that he may not wait for Kriss Kringle to arrive.

"I would like to be my own Santa," he said. "That seems to be the only way I'll get it."

Other New Yorkers were hoping to spread holiday cheer to those less fortunate.

Joel Asucraft of the Salvation Army said he only hopes to help children in need this holiday season.

"This year I’m not looking for anything," said Asucraft, 28. "We’re out here ringing the bell, trying our best to raise money for the homeless and children in need.

"We'll hopefully help some children who would otherwise have no presents."
