'Santa Paws' Brings Holiday Cheer to Pups

By Della Hasselle | December 7, 2011 7:11am

CHELSEA — Manhattan pups better be nice, because "Santa Paws" is coming to town.

For the second year in a row, four-legged Eventi Hotel guests and others can visit a fully dressed Santa Claus this Sunday at the hotel's public holiday party, catered specifically for the canine crowd.

Owners can bring their furry companions to the pet-friendly Sixth Avenue hotel for photo opportunities with Mr. and Mrs. Claus from 2 to 4 p.m. during the holiday festivities. Pups can even sit on Santa's lap to bark their secret Christmas wishes in his ear.

Homemade treats and water bowls will also be on hand for the dogs in the ornament and holly-decorated lobby, and the hotel will provide some cookies and refreshments for their owners.

The inn will be decorated with a Christmas tree in the corner of its lush lobby, filled with low, pet-accessible velvet chairs and tables.

The event was created at the hotel, at the corner of West 30th Street, in 2010 so that pet owners didn't feel so left out among the family-centric festivities the city offers during the holiday season, said Eventi general manager Thomas Mathes.

"While most holiday events are centered around children and adults, Santa Paws is a way for pet owners and guests to have some fun during the holidays," he explained.

"Some pet owners view their furry friends as part of their family, so why not bring them along to be a part of the holiday celebrations?"

Last year, the event was a big hit among canines and their companions. A few pups showed up dressed in holiday garb, complementing their fur with Santa hats and even sweaters as they mingled with Kriss Kringle's crew and fellow dogs.

This year, Eventi is sweetening the deal for pet owners who attend by entering them in a drawing to win a free stay at the hotel.

With pet beds, pet sitting, grooming, walking and even pet massages, the prize is the perfect gift for a pet owners who are also travelers, Mathes added.

"Eventi lets furry friends be part of guests travel adventures," he said.
