CHELSEA — The High Line is looking to bring in four new food vendors in 2012, expanding the already extensive variety of cuisine served on the city's elevated park.

According to a request for proposal issued by Friends of the High Line Monday, the park is looking for affordable, local and sustainable food vendors that will add to the diverse menu offered at the popular west Chelsea green space.

The Friends are looking for three of the vendors to set up shop, offering savory food to complement the popsicles, ice cream, and baked goods, at the Chelsea Market Passage between West 15th and 16th streets. They're also looking for one restaurateur to serve food, beer and wine at The Porch, a 50-seat venue on the lower level of the passage.

“We are looking for concessionaires whose product will enhance the High Line experience, while drawing from the bounty of the region’s sustainable farmers, ranchers, and purveyors," said Melina Shannon-DiPietro, director of High Line Food and Revenue.

"The food offerings, like the park’s plantings, should be innovative and reflect seasonality.”

The three vendors on the upper level will operate during the 2012 season, with two opportunities for a one-year renewal. The vendor that gets the space at The Porch will be for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, with a one-year renewal option.

Like other food-sellers at the park, a portion of profits made by vendors will go toward care and maintenance of the High Line.

Vendors hoping to score the plum spots can attend a pre-bid information meeting on Dec. 15. The final proposal is due to the Friends of the High Line on Feb. 1, 2011.
