MANHATTAN — The Jets got a much-needed win Sunday against Washington using yet another fourth-quarter rally, while the Giants fell late to the unbeaten Packers to continue their recent slide.
Mark Sanchez threw a 30-yard pass to Santonio Holmes for a touchdown with 4:49 left in the game, allowing Gang Green to beat the Redskins, 34-19, on the road.
The Jets later forced a fumble deep in Redskins territory, putting the game out of reach when Shonn Greene ran it in for a score.
Sanchez did not put up huge numbers, throwing for just 165 yards, but he managed to avoid throwing any interceptions and came up big again late in the game.
The win puts the Jets at 7-5, keeping them in the playoff hunt.
“We know where we think we’re going,” coach Rex Ryan told reporters after the game. “More confident than 100 percent? I don’t know about that.”
The Giants also rallied at home late in their game against the powerhouse Packers, but it wasn't enough to stop quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who led Green Bay to a last-second 38-35 win.
Eli Manning connected with Hakeem Nicks in the end zone with 58 seconds to go, followed by a successful two-point conversion to tie the game.
But Rodgers answered, driving his team into field goal territory in just two plays. Kicker Mason Crosby won the game for the Pack with a 31-yard field goal.
"Those are the fun ones, when they end up like that," Rodgers told reporters after the game.
Even thought the Giants lost, marking their fourth-straight defeat, a Dallas Cowboys loss Sunday keeps Big Blue in the playoff hunt.
"It gives us relief to know we're still right in the mix," Manning, who threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, told reporters. "If we handle our business and win out, we'll be in the playoffs. It's a playoff atmosphere now."
