MANHATTAN — Fashion means the world to New York.
Garments from cultures around the globe were on display at the Yale Club in Midtown Friday night in a colorful display of the ethnicities that make up the Big Apple's immigrant population.
Among the pieces on display for "Fashion Diaspora: Wearing Your Culture on Your Sleeve" at the 50 Vanderbilt Ave. club was a collection of Korean garments from the Sungshin Women's University as well as Senegalese and Indian garments, according to organizers.
The show also featured pieces from designers of different ethnicities based in the city including Vivienne Tam, Stephen Burrows, Loris Diran, Michael Houghton and Cody Sai.
Among those in attendance were Prince Lorenzo Borghese of Rome, Princess Hai Kyung Lee of Korea, former ambassador to South Korea, the Philippines and Tunisia, Stephen Bosworth and Ambassador Kim Young-Mok from Korea.
Proceeds were set to go to the East Rock Institute, the Metropolitan Arts League and the Bronx-based youth group Mind-builders Creative Arts Center.
