MIDTOWN — Select Buses will begin rolling down 34th Street this Sunday.

The new buses collect fares off the bus so that passengers don’t have to dip their Metrocards when they get on board.

As part of the transition, the M34 will be renamed the M34 Select Bus Service (SBS) and the M16 will be renamed the M34A SBS.

To help passengers navigate the new system, all of the stops will be staffed by MTA “customer ambassadors” for the next two weeks, the MTA said.

The Select Bus system, which already operates on First and Second avenues, aims to significantly speed up buses along the stretch, which sometimes creep slower than pedestrians can walk.

The buses are part larger plan to transform the gridlocked corridor, with changes including limiting westbound traffic to just one lane from Madison Avenue to Ninth Avenue, moving buses away from curbs, and adding 20,000 square feet of new pedestrian space with sidewalk-extending "bus bulbs" that jut into the street.
