MANHATTAN — The item-driven look for menswear's fall 2011 styles includes strong outerwear statements in lightweight fabrics with soft tailoring, duffel coats and military details, as well as knitted scarves and pullovers.

To build the "aristo-bohemian" a blend of luxe and shabby fashion that is seen on the streets this season, use textured knits to make oversized, coiled scarves. Street Chic notes this look is a precursor to the coming, hand-crafted Spring 2012 season.

We also noticed a subtle rock 'n'roll vibe — and the Spring 2012 men's collections in Milan and Paris were plugged in to fitted "youth quake" styles, with modern, mop-top haircuts and slender trousers, as well as new, fuller trouser shapes and '30s style wide brimmed fedora hats.

Color plays a key role in Manhattan's menswear this season, ranging from monochromatic to smashing reds, marine blues, greens, chalky grays and many shades of pink.
