MANHATTAN — A woman was sexually assaulted during an early morning walk on a Lower East Side street, according to police.

The incident occurred on Attorney Street, a three-block stretch between East Houston Street and the Williamsburg Bridge, at about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, police said.

Surveillance video shows the suspect approach the woman, who is dragging a wheeled suitcase, from behind. The encounter that ensues between them is not visible in the film, but cops say the suspect sexually assaulted the woman before being fought off.

The suspect is then seen running back towards the camera.

He is described as a black man, between 20 and 22-years-old, about 5-foot-8, 160 lbs and with a skinny build.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.

All calls are strictly confidential.
