Although Summer madness is dissipating, there is still a lot of quality live music on offer.

Next week the CMJ Festival hits town, so lovers of all things indie and college be prepared for a sonic inundation. Look out for a CMJ preview coming soon.

Wednesday October 12

Connecticut-based duo Mates of State write hook-laden anthemic indie pop that sounds great live. Their new album is called "Mountaintops." It was self-produced, written and recorded over the past 18 months in six different studios with multiple engineers, and then tied together by mixer Chris Coady (of Beach House, Gang Gang Dance.) At Webster Hall.

Also tonight: Iron & Wine and Low @ Terminal 5

Thursday October 13

Amy Ray and Emily Saliers formed the Indigo Girls in 1985, and since their debut studio album in 1987, they have been one of the quiet achievers on the US folk and pop music scenes with 10 top 50 albums under their belts. Their latest long player "Beauty Queen Sister" (out this month) was recorded in Nashville and is the fourth on their own IG Recordings label. At the Beacon Theatre.

Friday October 14

One Step Beyond is being described as "the most explosive party this side of the Milky Way" — and they might, literally, be right. Taking place within the Rose Center For Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History, the party features a Best Coast DJ set, as well as talented up-and-coming local producer Max Tannone. Max burst onto the scene in early 2009 with "Jaydiohead," combining the sounds of rap king Jay-Z and British rockers Radiohead. Once Jay-Z started tweeting about it, Max's remix career took off.

Also tonight: Accomplished Danish electronic music producer Trentemøller is playing at Webster Hall. He'll be playing tracks from last year's "Into the Great Wide Yonder."

Saturday October 15

Woodkid is French film director Yoann Lemoine. As a director, he's made music videos for Katy Perry & Moby, although his debut release from this year, "Iron EP," is a slice of minimally evocative Euro-pop. His debut album is expected later this year. At the Highline Ballroom.

Sunday October 16

Calle 13 are Latin American superstars from Puerto Rico. Formed by two stepbrothers in 2003, Calle 13 have won several Grammy Awards for their eclectic and unconventional albums, the most recent release being "Los de Atras Vienen Conmigo" ("The Ones Behind Are Coming with Me"). On it they they fuse rhythms of 'cumbia villera' native to Argentina, and Balkan Brass music. They are strong supporters of the Puerto Rican independence movement, a stance that has generated some controversy. At Best Buy Theater.

Monday October 17

The latest lineup of Jane's Addiction made their debut performance at singer Perry Farrell's 51st birthday celebration in California in March this year. Still containing key members Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro (vocals and guitar respectively), the band is enjoying a new lease of life after several breakup and reformation cycles since they formed in 1985. Their latest album is "The Great Escape Artist." At Irving Plaza.

Tuesday October 18

Epic '90s alt-rockers Smashing Pumpkins called it a day in 2000, reforming in 2005. In their heyday their success was global and their sonic palette ambitious. The 1995 album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" — a double CD and triple vinyl album set — debuted atop the US charts. Band leader and songwriter Billy Corgan has defined the band’s aim as "trying to find a synthesis of an alternative idealism combined with classic rock musical values, and then somehow take those things into the mainstream in a subversive way."

In 2009 the group announced plans to release a 44-track concept album, "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope", and the next chapter in that project is an "album within an album" next month called "Oceania." They're planning a comprehensive global tour in 2012. At Terminal 5.
