Ryan Gosling 'Embarrassed' After Breaking Up Street Fight

By Patrick Hedlund | September 8, 2011 12:00pm

MANHATTAN — Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling spoke recently about breaking up a street fight in the East Village, saying he was “embarrassed” for stepping in during the dust-up that went viral after being caught on tape.

In an interview with MTV, the Oscar-nominated actor described walking into Astor Place, where the conflict apparently arose after a man tried to steal another man’s painting.

“I should have just kept my nose out of it,” said Gosling, who has been spotted throughout East Village this summer, dining al fresco and canoodling with co-stars.

Gosling said the conflict started when one man tried to steal the painting because he was a fan of the artist’s work. He said he felt like he then added insult to injury by intervening in the fracas.

“He’s getting his ass kicked by his hero, and then the guy from 'The Notebook' shows up and makes it weirder,” Gosling told MTV. “The whole thing — nobody wins.”

He added that a trip to the gym right before the incident might have played a part in his spontaneous vigilantism.

“I had just come form the gymnasium, and I was all stretched out and feeling… warmed up,” he said. “So I’m embarrassed.”
