MANHATTAN — A violent thief grabbed an elderly man by the neck in an East Harlem bodega and dragged him into the street before ripping off his necklace, police said.

The shocking attack was captured by a surveillance camera.

It happened at a corner store on Second Avenue and East 122nd Street shortly after noon on Wednesday last week,  police said.

In the video, a person in a black and purple hat opens the door to the store and grabs a necklace from around the neck of a man standing at the front of the store.

The 70-year-old victim, who appears to be paying the cashier, is dragged along with the chain, which was eventually stolen, according to police.

The robber is described as a black male between 16 and 19-years-old. He was wearing a white tee shirt, tan cargo shorts, a black and purple hat and black sneakers at the time of the attack, according to the NYPD.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
