Special to DNAinfo

Although the summer is slowly fading away, there's no stopping the sunshine in this final week of August. So many great musical events are happening at the moment that even if there were eight days in the week, there would still be too many to choose from! For an illustration of this dilemma see Thursday night, with Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, Cat Power, Wavves and the beguiling St. Vincent all playing. Enjoy!

Wednesday August 24

Atmospheric indie band Sherlock's Daughter moved to New York from Sydney, Australia and have just completed their as yet untitled debut album produced by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, The Kills). Their weekly Pianos residency wraps up tonight. 158 Ludlow Street

Thursday August 25

Stephen Malkmus's  new album "Mirror Traffic" was recorded with Beck in the producer's seat. Tonight you can hear the Pavement frontman in solo acoustic in-store mode at Academy Records in Brooklyn at 6 p.m and  Other Music, 15 East 4th St at 9 p.m.

Also tonight: St. Vincent (Annie Clark) pens intelligent, experimental pop. Her forthcoming album "Strange Mercy" will be previewed tonight at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Roof Garden.

San Diego surf-rockers Wavves team up with with Dee Dee from the Dum Dum Girls for a blast of fuzzy feel-good soundwaves at East River Amphitheater, just south of the Williamsburg Bridge. Cat Power plays tonight at Webster too, and tomorrow (see below).

Friday August 26

Singer/songwriter Chan Marshall is Cat Power. She writes sparse and moving tales that touch on folk and indie rock, pop, and even sadcore. Catch her at Webster Hall.

Also tonight: The Damned Things are a true metal supergroup, featuring members of Anthrax, Fall Out Boy and Every Time I Die. At Gramercy Theater 127 East 23rd Street.

Juliana Hatfield's twelfth album "There's Always Another Girl" is out this week. The album was created with the monetary contribution of Hatfield's fans through Pledgemusic and those who supported the project received the album a month early. Also playing, Jesse Malin at City Winery.

Saturday August 27

Dave Matthews Band Caravan festival will feature nightly sets from the eclectic DMB, as well as performances by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds and side projects from Stefan Lessard and Carter Beauford. They're at Governors Island (also Friday and Sunday).

Also tonight: Resident artistic director and free-form jazz sax legend John Zorn plays The Stone. The Stone is a not-for-profit performance space dedicated to the experimental and avant-garde. Tonight's performance is an improv benefit for the venue. Corner of Avenue C and 2nd Street.

Sunday August 28

Smooth and soulful R & B sounds are on the menu at the Central Park Summerstage
with Jagged Edge and recent R&B/Hip-Hop Song Chart topper Melanie Fiona along with Avant.

Also tonight: Maxi Priest with Harlem Gospel Choir at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill.
Former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts with Kristy Lee at City Winery.
