HELL'S KITCHEN — A fire erupted in a West 49th Street building Thursday afternoon, injuring one, fire officials said.
The blaze broke out on the first floor of 334 W. 49th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues around 2:50 p.m.
Officials said they believe the fire was caused by a piece of clothing that was left on top of a lamp, according to FDNY Deputy Chief Tom McKavanagh.
The flames were contained to the rear apartment on the first floor, although the apartment above experienced some damage.
One person was being treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, according to McKavanagh.
The block was closed while firefighters fought the blaze.
