Handsome Furs, Fabolous and Deerhunter Play Manhattan

Funky improv-techno is on the bill tonight at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring Boombox and Eliot Lipp.
Boombox is a pair of DJ/producers, Russ Randolph (Muscle Shoals, Alabama) and Zion Rock Godchaux (Marin County, in the San Francisco Bay). Zion's parents were both members of the Grateful Dead.

Also tonight: Bebel Gilberto continues her Wednesday night Summer residency at City Winery.

Thursday, August 18

Handsome Furs are husband and wife Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry. They use keyboards and drum machines to forge life-affirming anthems taut with muscle and blood. Also tonight, Beyoncé's final sold-out show featuring songs from her new album "4" at Roseland Ballroom.

The War On Drugs are a band that merge the songwriting prowess of a Springsteen or Petty with the experimental sensibility of noisier influences such as Spacemen 3 or My Bloody Valentine. Join one of the hottest R&B, hip hip and rap lineups of the summer tonight at Governors Island with Fabolous headlining. Also on the bill, former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland, Big Sean, J. ColeEstelle, Wale and Ace Hood.

Also tonight: According to their self-generated publicity, hard rocking metal-heads Valient Thorr were birthed on the planet Venus several millennia ago. Tonight they land at Le Poisson Rouge.
