WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Baseball fans came out to see New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano as he took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony at a new bilingual AT&T store in Washington heights on Thursday night.

Fans lined up to receive autographs from Cano, who is originally from the Dominican Republic. The All-Star second baseman tweeted about the event on Friday, thanking fans for coming out.

“It was incredible to see so many people showing love,” he wrote in Spanish.

The new AT&T store at 614 W. 181st St., near Wadsworth Avenue, is billed as a "world class" retail space that is part of a “growing portfolio of Spanish bilingual retail locations in the metro NY area,” Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager at AT&T said in a statement.

When AT&T announced the store opening in February DeVito promised it would act as a "hub for education and employment opportunities" in the community.

The store is now staffed by English and Spanish bilingual consultants and is run by Washington Heights resident Delvyn Fernandez.
