WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Residents can breathe easier after a smelly trash container that had drawn multiple complaints was removed last Friday morning.

The bright pink, overflowing container owned by Orion Carting, of Brooklyn, had been sitting in front of 545 W. 158th St. accumulating trash and complaints for over a month, WABC-TV reported.

A 311 spokesperson told the station that the container had racked up eight complaints since July 9. Those complaints were turned over to the Department of Sanitation.

The Department of Sanitation says it first contacted Orion Wednesday and the company agreed to remove the bin. But after the container remained in place the next day, Sanitation gave the company notice that it needed to be removed by Friday morning or the agency would remove the container and charge for its removal.

Orion already faced a $100 fine for not removing the container on Thursday.

A call to Orion Carting on Friday was not returned.
