'Boardwalk Empire' Actress Paz de la Huerta Pleads Guilty to Harassment

MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — "Boardwalk Empire" actress Paz de la Huerta pleaded guilty to harassment charges on Thursday in exchange for one day of community service and 10 to 12 weeks of alcohol counseling.

The HBO actress, 26, was arrested and charged with throwing a punch and a glass at reality show personality Samantha Swetra of MTV's "The City" at the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District on March 20.

"I'm extremely glad this is over and I'm about to do a film," de la Huerta said after pleading guilty to second-degree harassment, a violation similar to a traffic summons. She had been charged with assault and weapon possession but was granted a plea deal as a first-time offender.

De la Huerta will have to do one day of community service in the public sector, her lawyer said. She will also attend 10 to 12 weeks of counseling at the Center for Motivation and Change on Fifth Avenue.

Her attorney, Jamel Oeser-Sweat, said the program determined she does not have a drinking problem but she will get a refresher course on the dangers of binge drinking.

She was also ordered by the judge to stay away from Swetra. Oeser-Sweat told de la Huerta if she ran into Swetra in a social setting she has to "keep it moving."

Speaking briefly to reporters, de la Huerta spoke more about her film career than her guilty plea.

She said she is about to start shooting the Lionsgate horror flick "Nurse 3D" in Toronto, but wouldn't go into details about the movie. A leaked movie poster shows her nude and covered in blood.

"It's a bit of a 'Basic Instinct' kind of film," she said. "There will be a love scene."

She also discussed the second season of the critically-acclaimed show "Boardwalk Empire," set to air in September, saying "It's going to be amazing."

Her character on 'Boardwalk Empire," Lucy Danzinger, is the on-again, off-again love interest of the show's lead, political boss Nucky Thompson, played by Steve Buscemi. De la Huerta said there will be more of a focus on her character in the upcoming season.

De la Huerta must show proof of completion of her community service and treatment by Nov. 8. If she does not comply, she could be forced to return to court.

She's also facing a civil lawsuit filed by Swetra.
