CHELSEA—A rainbow stream of color will light up the High Line Wednesday, as butterflies take flight off the riverside walk.

Animal lovers can follow a parade up the High Line from the Chelsea Market Passage at West 16th Street with the butterflies, watch them be released, and learn about the creatures' place in the ecosystem.

Butterfly releases will take place at 4:30, 5:15, and 6 pm.

The free activity is part of the High Line's Wild Wednesdays, with a different "critter" the last Wednesday of each month. June's pick was the ladybug, with 3,500 of them released into the park.

The events are free and open to children ages four and up and their families. No RSVP is required.
